Product Selection
Once the Functional Requirements Specification is signed off the next key stages in the project cycle are product selection and implementation planning.
Both these elements are started in parallel with the "Requirements Identification, Capture and Specification" phase. The consultant working with you will undertake a continuous process of solution evaluation as the project requirements are clarified.
When evaluating the options available there are three basic software solution types that can be considered:
- Bespoke
- Off-the-shelf
- Framework
All three have their place; there are however some general rules that apply:
- Bespoke developments are like anything that is custom made, relatively expensive to build and more difficult and costly to maintain; but they are built to your exact specifications.
- An off the shelf solution on the other hand is far cheaper to acquire and support but the functionality is generally restricted and it is difficult to extend.
- In contrast, a 'Framework' application brings the advantages of a bespoke development, via customisation and extensibility, together with the price benefits and ease of support that an off the shelf application offers.
Eurisko believe that framework applications are the best route to cost effective content management solutions as they give you:
- Low overall cost of ownership
- Ease of use and support
- Core functionality 'out-the-box'
- Defined customisation processes
- Rapid return on investment
